A ServiceNow Developer is responsible for designing, developing, configuring, and implementing solutions on the ServiceNow platform. ServiceNow is a cloud-based platform that provides IT service management (ITSM), IT operations management (ITOM), and business process automation (BPA) capabilities.
The job description of a ServiceNow Developer may include the following responsibilities:
- Designing and developing custom applications, modules, and workflows on the ServiceNow platform.
- Collaborating with business analysts, system administrators, and other stakeholders to gather requirements and understand business needs.
- Configuring and customizing ServiceNow modules, forms, tables, and fields to meet specific business requirements.
- Developing and maintaining integrations between ServiceNow and other systems using REST APIs, web services, and scripting.
- Creating and managing ServiceNow reports, dashboards, and performance analytics to monitor and analyze system performance.
- Troubleshooting and resolving issues and defects in ServiceNow applications and functionalities.
- Participating in the testing, deployment, and release management of ServiceNow applications and updates.
- Providing technical guidance and support to end-users and administrators in using and maintaining the ServiceNow platform.
- Staying up-to-date with ServiceNow platform enhancements, new features, and industry best practices.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and integration of ServiceNow with other IT systems and processes.
Required qualifications for a ServiceNow Developer may include:
- Strong experience in ServiceNow development, configuration, and customization.
- Proficiency in JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and other web development technologies.
- Familiarity with ServiceNow modules, such as Incident Management, Change Management, Problem Management, Service Catalog, etc.
- Knowledge of ServiceNow workflows, business rules, UI policies, and other configuration elements.
- Experience with ServiceNow scripting, including server-side scripting (Glide System, Glide Record) and client-side scripting (UI Actions, UI Policies).
- Understanding of relational databases and SQL queries for data manipulation and reporting.
- Familiarity with ITSM, ITIL, and IT operations processes and frameworks.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve technical issues.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
- ServiceNow certification(s) such as Certified Application Developer (CAD), Certified Implementation Specialist (CIS), or equivalent, are often preferred or required by employers.
